Investors urged to think long term
Investors in commercial property have been urged not to panic and to judge the prospects of their assets on a long-term basis.
Falling values of commercial property funds have seen some investors look to back away from the sector, but Meera Patel, a senior analyst at Hargreaves Lansdown, is convinced that the slump is part of a cycle.
This cycle will mean that over the long term commercial property-related assets will again become a solid part of an investors personal finance portfolio, Ms Patel has suggested.
"If you've invested in an investment, whether that's property or equities or bonds, you would have invested for the long term," she said.
"So although a lot of the property funds are now putting these notice periods on redemptions, it does not necessarily mean you have to panic sell assets in funds."
In related money news, Scottish Widows has introduced a 180-day waiting list for any of clients who are planning to cash in some or all of their commercial property and assets.
