Homebuyers 'likely to welcome price drops'
The current downturn being seen in property prices could signal welcome help with money for buyers, one personal finance advice site has stated.
Fool .co.uk asserts that the slowing in the market is good news for those looking to change properties, but warns that first-time buyers must remain cautious nonetheless.
David Kuo, head of personal finance at the firm, said: "In December house prices were starting to moderate and I think that will continue through 2008 itself.
"It is good news for buyers and it is exactly what they have been waiting for."
However, he added that even if a fall of 20 per cent is seen this year, the average price will still be six times the average first-time buyer salary - meaning that the help with finance available still comes with a significant risk.
In related money news, the personal finance advice website recently published research indicating that 50 per cent of those looking to get on the housing ladder had not altered their plans despite news of likely price drops in the next year.
