FSA fairness guidance 'cautiously welcomed'
New guidance from the Financial Services Authority (FSA) on treating customers fairly has been partially welcomed by the Investment Management Association (IMA).
Those seeking help with money through relying in the skills of investment professionals may be interested to read the organisation's comments, which suggest that FSA guidelines should be received with caution.
Julie Patterson, director of authorised funds and tax at the association, remarks: "It is important for the guidance to reflect the reality for fund managers who, when sales are made through intermediaries, do not have direct control over the sale and will not in many cases know the identity and circumstances of end customers."
She added that the AMI has worked in coordination with the FSA while the guidelines were being established, meaning that they now represent a "significant step forward" in fostering understanding between the regulator and its industry.
Recently, the IMA stated that a new deposit insurance system was vital to restore public confidence in the help with money afforded to consumers by fund management.
