Drivers given saftey advice for winter
Drivers throughout the UK are likely to take to the road more tentatively in the coming frosty mornings to try to avoid the personal finance disaster of a car accident.
To help motorists overcome the worst of the winter conditions, Insurancewide has offered up a seasonal driving guide that should aid them in avoiding any need for help with money to repair their vehicle.
Among the pointers from the firm are checking the weather forecast before setting out, sticking to speed limits and paying close attention to the road ahead.
Furthermore, choosing a high gear in snowy or icy conditions can help to avoid wheelspins, the company states.
However, other risks also come along with the winter months, Insurancewide asserts: "When the snow hits us overnight, many people follow the same morning routine - scrape off the ice from the windscreen and leave the car running with the keys in the ignition to fully defrost.
"It doesn't take a genius to work out what a great opportunity this is for thieves to steal your car and drive off."
It adds that most insurance policies will not cover a theft should the keys be left in an unattended vehicle.
The Highways Agency has had its winter fleet on standby in recent days in response to Met office predictions of poor conditions on England's major trunk roads and motorways.
