Drawdown mortgages 'increasing in popularity'
Increasing numbers of homeowners are choosing to take advantage of drawdown lifetime mortgages, it has been claimed.
Personal finance services firm intune states that the higher take up of such mortgages - which allow consumers to take out the value stored in their home in stages - was due to the peace of mind afforded by knowing such help with money is available.
The subsidiary of Help the Aged stated that the help with finance is often used as a means of supplementing income or to make one-off purchases.
Alternatively, it could be used by those experiencing trouble with debt, the firm claimed.
Mark Gettinby, director of financial services at intune, said: "As equity release is a major financial decision we would always encourage the public to seek independent advice from a specialist before proceeding."
In related money news, recent research from Safe Home Income Plans found that drawdown mortgages constitute 51 per cent of all equity release plans entered into.
