Consumers 'should go green in 2008'
British consumers have been urged to be more environmentally-friendly by selecting greener personal finance products and services this year.
The Fair Investment Company is keen to see Britons choose insurance products and energy suppliers that have made a commitment to reducing their negative impact on the environment over the coming months.
Consumer credit is now available from providers that promise to offset some of their carbon emissions and there a number of energy firms taking steps to be greener, but the decision to take up these options ultimately rests with consumers, the company suggests.
"There are many ways in which the consumer can do their bit against the threat of climate change," said James Caldwell, a Fair Investment Company director.
Almost 13 million British consumers recently resolved to become more environmentally-friendly in 2008, according to research carried out last month on behalf of Friends Provident.
