Consumers 'should devise an annual budget'
Consumers would be wise to work out an annual budget if they hope to avoid trouble with debt.
So claims the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS), a personal finance organisation that offers help with finance advice to the public.
It asserts that those who discover they do need help with money should visit a debt advice charity rather than a bank for direction, as they may be able to provide a wider view of the options available.
Frances Walker, spokesperson for CCCS, said: "Sometimes with banks they may just say 'we'll just give you one consolidatory loan'. You are better to go to an independent third party charity such as ourselves."
The money news follows a statement following the third quarter of 2007 which suggested that many more families might find themselves in a position of trouble with debt the coming months.
Meanwhile, Credit Action asserts that the total UK debt stands at £1,400 billion.
