Cara-fans 'must study insurance details'
Fans of caravanning should ensure they understand their level of cover when setting off for a holiday, one personal finance industry body has suggested.
The Association of British Insurers has stated that caravan contents are likely to be covered by home contents insurance when the trailer is static - such as while at home or in a camping site.
However, the same cover may not apply while the caravan is on the move - this may be subject to motor insurance instead.
A spokesperson added that limits always apply: "If you're taking stuff away that is more expensive than your policy limits, then get it listed - on either your specialist caravan policy or your home insurance policy."
She went on to stress the importance of always making sure enough insurance is available, given that increasingly extreme weather conditions resulting from climate change will likely cause higher incidence of damage in future.
The British Holiday and Home Parks Association recently stated that half the UK population have gone on a caravan holiday at some point in their life.
