Capital One ID fraud service 'is an early-warning system'
A new online service designed to act as an early-warning system to protect against the threat of identity theft has been made available to Capital One credit card customers around the UK, it has been revealed.
Identity theft has been responsible for many British credit card users find themselves facing trouble with debt and Capital One is convinced that by emailing their clients in the event of unusual account activity the problem can be at least partly alleviated.
In collaboration with the credit reference agency Equifax, Capital One will also ensure that its customers are alerted whenever an application for credit is made on their policy.
Srini Gopalan, UK senior vice president of Capital One, commented: "We recognise that, although the issue of ID theft is serious, customers don't always have time to regularly check their credit file for unusual activity that might suggest they have been victim to this crime.
"This new ID alert service gives additional reassurance for our customers and makes our ID theft protection service even more robust and valuable."
Finance news from the same company in the summer of last year suggested that British credit card users are particularly vulnerable to identity theft when spending via plastic outside of the UK.
