Buildings insurance offers 'vital protection'
Homeowners who neglect to take out buildings insurance for their property are leaving themselves at significant risk, it has been claimed.
Personal finance firm Nationwide has stated that many people tend to avoid such types of cover because they believe them to be exceedingly complicated.
However, a spokesperson for the organisation asserted that it was not difficult to understand "at all" and that it was important for consumers to take heed of the help with money available.
Charlotte Sjoberg, campaigns manager for Nationwide, said: "Having building insurance in particular is incredibly important as it covers things like a fire; vandalism; storms and floods. Being without it is putting your home at real risk."
She added that whether on a flood plain or not, consumers should protect themselves against unexpected incidents.
The finance news follows recent research from the building society suggesting that one in five households do not have any buildings insurance.
