'Simple precautions can prevent online credit card fraud'
Following a series of simple precautions will help cut the chances of falling victim to credit card fraud online, the CPP has advised.
According to figures from CPP, credit card fraud has declined by five per cent over the last six months of the year.
However, considerable risks exist for consumers using their cards online, which can be mitigated by abiding by certain rules, Danny Harrison of the CPP, said.
Chief among these is being vigilant over the websites to whom customers provide their credit card details, said Mr Harrison, who said that a simple way to check their status is looking for "the little padlock" which indicates they are secure.
He said: "When giving over your information, you need to know that those people are who they say they are, and that they can be trusted."
Also recommended is keeping "your anti-virus software and firewall software up to date ", which will guard against phishing scams.
