Report slams broadband providers
Broadband providers have been accused of dragging their feet over customers seeking to switch provider and take advantage of cheaper deals.
Under regulations introduced by broadband regulator Ofcom, providers must issue customers with a MAC code within five days of being told the customer wishes to leave their service.
The measure was introduced to speed up the switching process, which has resulted in lengthy delays for customers.
However, a new study from uSwitch revealed that the regulations seem to have made little difference to providers' practices.
In a poll of consumers, it was found that one in four were still waiting for their code after the five-day period stipulated.
Furthermore, one in seven did not receive a code at all.
Steve Weller, communications expert at uSwitch, said the findings highlighted the need for immediate action from Ofcom to tackle the problem.
He added: "It's disappointing that despite the mandatory Code of Practice being introduced, providers are still dragging their heels at the customer’s expense."
