More pensioners planning overseas retirement
Over one-third of Britons are planning to head for sunnier climes when they retire, it has been revealed.
A study conducted by Scottish Widows found that 39 per cent were considering moving to a foreign country when they reach retirement age.
Those most likely to head abroad were Londoners where the need to escape the hustle and bustle of the capital has made 60 per cent of respondents likely or very likely to head overseas when their pensions came.
The growing numbers of pensioners relocating is expected to increase yet further in year to come, with Scottish Widows predicting that by 2050 over 3 million retirees will have left Britain for a new life overseas.
However, all those harbouring such intentions must start planning now if they are to ensure the move is financially feasible, Mike Hoban, marketing director of Scottish Widows, said.
He explained: "Whatever your age, the need to plan your retirement and to understand the options available to you regarding your personal and occupational pension schemes and investments, becomes increasingly important."
"If you take full advantage of tax benefits on your pension you can even get the tax man to contribute to that dream place in the sun."
