Low-maintenance garden can boost property value
A low-maintenance, family-friendly garden can boost chances of selling a property, according to Gardening Which?.
The consumer group urges homeowners thinking of selling to avoid strong themes and ensure that the garden reflects the mood of the house.
Research has shown that gardens can add significant value to properties, especially if they are well-presented.
But Kate Faulkner of Gardening Which? said when it comes to the back yard, less can be more.
"It is important that if you are looking to sell your property, your garden reflects the style of your house," she added.
"Avoid strong themes, such as a Japanese or minimalist theme, if you are planning on selling."
Homeowners who have invested in their garden should ensure they are properly covered against the elements.
According to Halifax, the high street lender and home insurance provider, 150,000 gardens have suffered damage because of extreme weather events in the last 12 months.
