Investec mortgages target City workers
Investec Private Bank has launched a new product aimed at individuals, such as City workers, who earn a large portion of their wage from bonuses.
Under the terms of the mortgage, holders are permitted to make smaller repayments on a monthly basis, but are then able to make up the shortfall with the large lump sums they typically receive as seasonal bonuses.
The mortgage is aimed principally at the 104,000 UK domiciled individuals who earn more than £200,000 per annum and the 3,000 people who are employed in the City who receive bonuses of £1 million or more, Investec said.
Wayne Preston, head of mortgages at Investec, told yourmortgage.com: "The key to success in the high income and high net worth mortgage market is strong risk management and flexibility around meeting the needs of the client."
The launch of the mortgages, which start at £500,000, comes at a time of economic uncertainty which could significantly reduce the size of bonuses awarded by investment banks and hedge funds
