Holidaying motorists urged to check car insurance
Drivers planning to take their car overseas have been urged to check their car insurance policy before heading off.
According to Ian Crowder, public relations manager for the AA, although UK car insurance provides third party cover for motorists in the event of an incident, this does not necessarily mean that the policy includes comprehensive cover.
This could leave drivers paying significantly more should they be involved in a crash which they were deemed to have caused.
Mr Crowder said: "Just check your policy document and see if you're covered in the UK.
"If you do have an accident when you travel abroad [and you do not have comprehensive cover], you'll find that … you've got the expense of getting your car removed and so on."
The popularity of taking your car has increased recently with around 3 million Britons travelling to Europe with their car annually, a recent report from the RAC revealed.
