Direct Line insurance to help to identity fraud victims
Consumers signing up to Direct Line's home insurance policies are set to benefit from a helpline for victims of identity fraud.
The firm, which is one the UK's largest home insurance providers, moved to add its Identity Fraud Assistance service to its policies in the face of increasing incidences of its customers falling victim to the crime.
Government figures cited by the insurer show that in some cases of identity fraud, resolution of the matter is only achieved after 400 hours and at a cost of some £8,000.
However, by contacting the helpine line it is hoped that victims can be compensated quicker through benefiting from advice from a personal case handler who will help them take the necessary steps.
Andrew Lowe, head of Home Insurance for Direct Line, said: "Victims of identity fraud could encounter debt collectors, court actions and difficulties getting a mortgage, credit card or bank account if their credit report is not corrected.
"We are giving our customers peace of mind by putting a support service in place to help them deal with this growing threat. Being the victim of a crime can be distressing enough without the added worry of not knowing how to resolve the problem."
