Consumers urged to scour providers pricing plans
Saving money on your energy bills does not necessarily necessitate changing provider, a price comparison site has said.
According to Michelle Slade, analyst at Moneyfacts.co.uk, in fact, a client’s existing supplier may have a deal that is more apt of which they are not aware.
However, because customers are not informed that they could be on more appropriate pricing plan by the companies, millions of people are overpaying for their gas and electricity, Ms Slade said.
She commented: "When you do a search on the likes of Moneyfacts.co.uk to get a better deal on your utilities, sometimes this will reveal that your current supplier has a cheaper deal - but why don’t they tell you this?
"Switching supplier isn’t always necessary. Just by switching tariffs with your existing supplier, you could make savings. Finding out and switching to the best deal for your energy consumption could save you as much as £320 each year."
Ms Slade’s remarks come as British Gas, npower, EDG and Scottish Power have all announced double digit price increases over the last month, prompting criticism from consumer groups.
