Computer game advises youngster about debt'
A new online computer game has been launched to teach young people how to manage their money and cope with debt.
The game, which is called Turf War, is the brainchild of the charity YouthNet and is available to play at its website.
Turf War’s gameplay sees two rival gangs of rats attempting to throw items at one another, with each thrown item accruing a charge from a budget set at the beginning the game.
Amid the fun, however, lessons can be learnt in the form of advice and article about financial issues, with progress in the game on-hold until the player has read the information.
It is also hoped that the game will teach youth how to budget effectively, Myfinances.com reports
YouthNet chief executive Fiona Dawe said: "Money is an increasingly important issue for young people, but a difficult topic to make interesting.
"With Turf War we’re using a mechanic that is relevant and entertaining, allowing us to engage with young people and help them develop this essential life skill."
