Brits struggling to save
Brits would like to save more money but are finding it increasingly difficult to do so, according to a new survey.
In a poll conducted by National Savings and Investments (NS&I), the average amount respondents said they are hoping to save every month stood at £180.91.
This was up from £174.91 when the same question was asked during the preceding quarter and suggests that following years of spending on easy to obtain credit, consumers may be becoming more responsible over their finances.
However, despite good intentions, a third of Brits feel that their target will be unattainable.
Dan Harkins, senior savings strategist at NS&L, said that if people are serious about saving money, the easiest way to do so is to make low-level changes to their lifestyle.
He explained: "Despite a strong desire to put more away in the savings pot many people are really feeling the pinch.
"A little modification to your daily routine, which is sustainable, can help you build up quite a considerable nest egg."
In particular, he recommended that consumers consider growing their own food and ditching expensive diet plans and gym memberships in favour of a bracing daily walk.
