Women 'more generous providers for children'
Women are more likely to provide help with money to their offspring than their male counterparts, it has been suggested.
According to new data from personal finance service Unbiased.co.uk, 52 per cent of mothers have provided funds to their children - significantly higher than the 40 per cent of men who have done so.
However, men seem more prepared to help out friends in need - with 45 per cent having claimed to have provided help with money to their mates.
Meanwhile, the company's research found that reliance on parental handouts varies from one part of the country to another.
Children in London were established as the most financially independent, while those in Yorkshire and Humberside were most reliant on handouts from their parents.
David Elms, chief executive of Unbiased.co.uk, comments: "It could be time for Northern children to stop relying on either of their parents and take personal control of their finances.
"Unbiased.co.uk is encouraging people of all ages to get saving and be proactive in avoiding financial difficulties before they arise."
Recently, Unbiased.co.uk stated that increasing numbers of people were seeking out the advice of independent financial advisers in the wake of recent market turbulence threatening their investments.
