Terror tots tear up homes
With all the excitement of the Christmas season drawing ever closer, some homes will be viewing with dread one of the greatest threats known to wallpaper.
Sugar-fuelled marauding infants have taken their toll on the nation's homes during 2007, leaving £122 million worth of damage in their wake, according to new figures from one personal finance body - and Christmas might just be the time for their crime sprees to reach fever pitch.
Halifax reports that spilt drinks and wallpaper-based artistic undertakings are the cause of the lion's share of damage - with boys 20 per cent more likely to break items than their female counterparts.
The firm reassures parents that, no matter whether it may seem so at the time, such furniture art is classed as "accidental damage" - with the average cost of a claim reaching an impressive £529.68.
Martyn Foulds, senior claims manager at Halifax Home Insurance, said: "Parents can protect themselves from the costs of home repairs and damaged contents by ensuring their home insurance includes accidental damage cover."
In related money news, earlier this year a Direct Line poll found that on average, parents believed toddler-inflicted damage had reduced the value of their home by £2,000.
