Stakeholder CTFs 'are more efficient'
Investing child trust funds (CTF) in stakeholder vehicles will provide greater help with money than straight cash CTFs, it has been claimed.
Family Investments, which claims to be the current leading provider of the child savings products, states that share-based options outperform their equivalents while offering a "fair balance between risk and return".
Miles Bingham, marketing director at the firm, comments that, while cash CTFs may offer help with finance by increasing children's understanding of money, in the long-run they are less lucrative.
"All the statistics show that over an 18-year period, someone who's invested stocks and shares is going to outperform someone who's invested cash," he explains.
Mr Bingham adds that government believes the same to be true - hence their use of stakeholder CTFs as the default product.
For children born in 2005-06, almost four out of five CTF products were stakeholder accounts.
