Spain 'attractive to lifestyle buyers'
Spain is continuing to attract British homebuyers in large numbers and is also expected to do so in 2008, Property Frontiers predicts.
A spokesperson for the property company suggested that lifestyle buyers from the UK will still flock to Spain in large numbers next year, despite the continuing credit crunch in global markets affecting personal finances.
"Those looking to buy purely for lifestyle will almost certainly still look to Spain. It is a beautiful country with a beautiful culture and beautiful people," she explained. "With wonderful beaches, 320 days of sunshine a year, delicious food and wine, a laid back lifestyle, stunning mountain ranges and spectacular cities, it is of endless appeal to tourists and retirees alike."
Spain was named as the most popular market for Britons buying homes overseas in 2006 in a report from the Association of International Property Professionals (AIPP). Britons spent almost £20 billion on properties abroad last year, with the average home overseas costing £98,166.67.
Britons investing in property tend to do so as either a buy-to-let investment or as because they are emigrating there. The country has proved particularly popular with retirees from the UK.
