Average NYE spend just £30, says Fool.co.uk
Fool.co.uk has suggested that the average spend for Britons on New Year's Eve (NYE) will amount to just £30.48.
The personal finance website also revealed that seven out of ten people would spend New Year's Eve at home with either friends or family.
Respondents to the survey indicated that the majority of their budget would be spent on drink, with food and transport the other costly additions to their night.
Younger people are likely to spend more on merriments than older generations but only by a small margin, with 50 to 57-year-olds spending an average of £26 and 18 to 25-year-olds spending £34.
David Kuo, head of personal finance at Fool.co.uk, suggested that heavy spending at Christmas may have influenced Brits to be more thrifty come new year.
"Money may be thin on the ground by the time December 31st arrives, therefore it's commendable that we're showing restraint on an evening that is essentially an annual blow-out," he added.
In other money news, Nationwide has revealed that saving is likely to be the number one priority for Brits in 2008.
