Nationwide research finds saving a priority
New research from Nationwide Building Society has found that saving is the top priority for Brits in 2008.
Almost half of all respondents suggested that saving would make up a part of their financial new year's resolutions, with 48 per cent confirming that they wanted to start putting more away or save more next year.
Over a quarter of men and 24 per cent of women said that saving would be the most important change to their financial behaviour while 18 to 24-year-olds were the group most concerned with their saving habits.
More than 65 per cent of young adults wanted to change their saving practices compared to only 33 per cent of savers aged over 55.
Stuart Bernau, Nationwide executive director, indicated that the current economic climate had altered people's perceptions when understanding money in 2008 and consequently it was "no surprise" that saving was top of the agenda.
He advised: "New year's resolutions can fall by the wayside as the year goes on, but by making one resolution and sticking to it you can really make a difference to your finances."
In other finance news, the Fool.co.uk has found that the average spend for Britons on New Year's Eve will amount to only £30.
