Millions spent in last-minute buying
Millions of British consumers are set to hit the high street one final time before Christmas Day arrives, according to recent research.
Data from Sainsbury's Bank show that a collective total of close to £2.14 billion will be spent by shoppers around the country over the course of Christmas Eve.
However, for some consumers last-minute shopping could lead to trouble with debt and the need for help with money, given that £380 million worth of Christmas Eve spending is set to be funded through credit cards.
Donald MacLeod, head of cards at Sainsbury's Bank, said: "It looks like the shops are going to be busy on Christmas Eve as a lot of people intend to do a significant part of their shopping then.
"Our research would indicate that the overall spend in the Christmas Eve rush is going to be considerably up on last year's."
In related finance news, almost half of all Britons are planning to give money as a gift this Christmas, according to recent research carried out in behalf of the Post Office.
