Lower rates top financial wish list
Of all the personal finance presents that people wish they would receive this Christmas, a falling interest rate would be most welcome.
So claims mortgage expert John Charcol, which has compiled a list of the top five pieces of money news UK consumers would most like to receive this year.
Although interest rates fell last Thursday, consumers are likely to be keen on further reductions in 2008.
And with some predictions suggesting a dip to 4.5 per cent over the next 12 months, this is one present that might just fall in consumers' laps.
"For borrowers with mortgages on tracker rates, monthly payments have reduced by an average £20.80 per £100,000 of mortgage interest," the company states.
Meanwhile, fairer stamp duty, the abolition of home information packs, free mortgage advice for those in trouble with debt and "magical houses which clean themselves" also made the cut.
In recent money news, John Charcol remarked last Thursday that the monetary policy committee's quarter per cent cut in rates was "a good start"
