Kids 'have Aladdin's cave of toys'
While being sent to one's room was a punishment dreaded by many an ill-behaved scamp, the sanction holds no fear of boredom for today's children, one personal finance provider suggests.
According to Lloyds TSB, rather than the boredom with which such troublemakers are intended to meet, nowadays they are more likely to have their pick of high-value toys.
Experts at the organisation state that the average child's bedroom now contains toys and gadgets valued at £1.720.
This figure suggests a rise in the 2006 figure of £1,607.
Meanwhile, with Christmas just around the corner, the value of items hidden away could rise still further.
Phil Loney, managing director of Lloyds TSB Insurance, said: "Despite kids' bedrooms costing a small fortune, many homes may not be adequately insured as parents don't necessarily know how much their home contents are really worth."
He warned that, to avoid needing significant help with finance in the event of an accident or theft, parents should take time to ensure they are adequately covered.
Recently, personal finance firm Abbey warned buyers to ensure heated blankets are in good condition, as more than 5,000 fires a year result from such equipment.
