Good searching 'can unearth bargains online'
Using price comparison websites can help British consumers find bargains and in many cases avoid further trouble with debt, it has been claimed.
Whether searching for a good deal on a particular financial product or toys for the kids this Christmas, assessing the options available online can be beneficial in most cases, according to a spokesperson for personal finance site Consumer Direct.
In fact, citing figures compiled by the Office of Fair Trading (OFT), Consumer Direct suggests that shoppers in the UK could be saving a collective total of over £150 million per year simply by comparing product prices effectively.
"Our basic advice is to shop around and that's as true for financial products as it is for other goods and services," said Consumer Direct's spokesperson.
"We'd advise using different price comparison sites and multiple search engines and to look at not only the price but …at the other elements of the deal."
According to recent finance news from the OFT, more than 20 million British consumers shopped online last year and spent more than £20 billion in the process.
