Financial planning 'should take priority in the new year'
Getting a strong grasp on their personal finance situation should be many consumers' new year's resolution, one provider of help with money has claimed.
Halifax has asserted over the weekend that making financial management a priority could help many people avoid trouble with debt in 2008.
Peter Jackson, head of products at the company, said: "Most of us religiously hit the high street for the January sales, but too few of us include banking products in our bargain hunting. By making a few small changes today, you could make some significant financial gains in the future."
The firm has provided a number of suggestions intended to help with money in the coming months, such as ensuring that a consumer's chosen current account is working as hard as is possible, as well as borrowing in an efficient manner to avoid high interest costs.
It also states that setting up a standing order can be an efficient way of building savings without having to remember to put funds aside each month.
In recent month news, the insurance arm of Halifax has urged consumers that they are not underinsured following the increase in value of their property resulting from Christmas.
