Crime rates 'will affect insurance premiums'
Living in an area where there are high levels of crime is likely to impact on your home insurance premium, it has been claimed.
Personal finance provider Liverpool Victoria states that, in reaction to figures suggesting a high level of burglary in an area, insurers are likely to require higher premiums to reflect the risk they are taking on.
However, consumers looking for greater help with money from such institutions can undertake steps to improve their premium costs, it states.
Emma Holyer, spokesperson for Liverpool Victoria (LV), said that putting deadlocks on doors could be a valuable way of minimising risk.
She also said that the help with money provided by adequate insurance should be stressed: "It's ever so important that you do have insurance…particularly if you do live in one of those sorts of areas [where] there is a higher risk of theft, [such as] in urban city areas."
In related finance news, the company recently released research indicating that the average UK home had £25,000 worth of contents.
