Christmas saving 'can reignite the habit'
Electing to take part in a Christmas savings scheme might be the best way to get back into the savings habit, it has been claimed.
According to the Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS), many people who are looking to enjoy greater help with money next year but unused to putting funds aside might benefit from such an initiative.
James Ketchell, spokesperson for CCCS, said: "The important thing is for people to save. It doesn't matter what way they choose to do that, everybody is different."
He added that Christmas savings schemes had their own advantages, including discounts in some stores, which could in themselves provide useful help with finance.
In related money news, the Post Office recently announced that it was launching a Christmas saving scheme in 2008.
However, strict rules will ensure that the funds in the scheme will be protected to avoid the kind of personal finance disaster which befell many Farepak investors.
