Christmas rush 'increases costs'
Less organised Christmas shoppers could find themselves needing more help with money than their well-prepared counterparts when the dust settles after Christmas, it has been suggested.
According to new research conducted by personal finance provider Egg, the four million shoppers taking to the streets in the last week before Christmas are likely to exceed their spending estimates by a collective £594 million.
The firm states that panic buying could be one of the root causes of trouble with debt in the aftermath of the festive season, leaving consumers in greater need of help with money than expected.
Alison Wright, chief marketing officer at Egg, said: "Consumers need to try to find ways to drive down the overall cost of Christmas - one way seems to be by avoiding those last minute shopping sprees, when lack of choice and panic buying are rife."
The personal finance firm has also recently released money news suggesting that the expense of staying stylish as yummy mummies costs those with young children £6 billion each year.
