Christmas 'might prompt increased security'
With Christmas just around the corner and many households filling up with festive fare, now may be a good time to invest in some new security for a property.
Such is the onion of insurer Direct Line, which is encouraging consumers to protect their home in advance of the winter feast.
The personal finance provider has stated that Christmas time unfortunately offers many opportunities for burglars, but that measures can be undertaken to ensure that the risk of theft is minimised.
Andrew Lowe, head of home insurance at Direct Line, said: "Most burglars are opportunists so it is important to be careful not to leave presents on display, near a window or all in one place like in a bedroom or under the Christmas tree as many burglaries occur when presents such as electrical goods are left in view of passers by."
He added that some insurers offer a discount on their premiums for homes that can demonstrate a set level of security.
Meanwhile, research published by Liverpool Victoria suggests that 68 per cent of households in the UK have electrical equipment or other valuable items on display.
