Christmas cover 'may not extend into 2008'
Ensuring that you have sufficient insurance is vital over the Christmas period to avoid a personal finance disaster.
Such is the warning from Halifax, which states that too many consumers are unaware of the limits of the seasonal cover increases offered by insurers.
It asserts that, while a lot of personal finance providers offer increased cover at Christmas time, such a hike does not extend into the new year, potentially leaving consumers exposed.
David Rochester, senior underwriter for Halifax Home Insurance comments: "It's vital for people without unlimited cover to remember to update their insurer with any changes to their contents value and be aware that some insurers will penalise customers who underestimate the value of their belongings."
He observed that present-buyers should remember they were responsible for ensuring they have sufficient insurance even for those items stored in another person's home - although he added that some policies do provide unlimited cover extending to items stored away from the home.
Recent money news from Sainsbury's Bank revealed that the rising cost of living meant that underinsurance was a growing problem.
