Burglary 'can be avoided using simple steps'
A home insurance company has claimed that by employing a few simple methods, property owners can avoid being targeted by burglars this Christmas.
Liverpool Victoria (LV) has commented that 68 per cent of households may be risking such an incident by leaving expensive items such as jewellery on display.
Furthermore, the firm stated that the average house in the UK contains approximately £25,000 worth of goods.
Spokesperson for LV Emma Holyer stated that people should make sure they are not leaving their property compromised at night or when they are not inside.
People do need to check, because there's nothing worse than going away or going out for the night and coming home to find your property broken into," she said.
This comes as an old woman in Newbury has been made the victim of a distraction burglary, the Newbury Today reports.
Police in the area are looking for three young men, it adds.
