Apacs report dispels personal finance myths
Cash and cheques are still popular methods of payment in the UK, a new study from Apacs has revealed.
The new Payment Myths report takes statistics compiled by Apacs to dispel common personal finance misconceptions, including use of credit cards, cash, cheques and online banking.
For example, the study found that while many people believe over-65s use online banking, the age demographic is among the fastest-growing number of people embracing the 24-hour technology.
According to Sandra Quinn, there are still a number of stereotypes that exist about money and payments.
"While new technology means we can now bank online 24 hours a day or have our groceries delivered with the click of a mouse, traditional methods like cash and cheques continue to endure," Ms Quinn explained.
In other money news, citing Apacs figures, debt charity Credit Action stated that by the end of 2006, there were 74.4 million credit cards in issue in the UK, which has a population of around 60 million.
