Which: Millions still not switching energy provider
Millions of Britons are still failing to acknowledge the benefits of switching energy provider despite figures showing that the practice is becoming more widespread, a leading consumer magazine has claimed.
Figures released by Ofgem yesterday showed that some 5.1 million consumers switched energy provider last year in search of cheaper deals.
This was the highest number recorded by the energy watchdog for five years.
However, according to Siobhan Parker from Switch with Which?, these figures mask the fact that "about 50 per cent of UK households have never switched provider," despite the "significant price differences between energy tariffs and suppliers".
She added: "Switching isn't just for people with online access - Switch with Which? offers a freephone service which is especially helpful if you don't have internet access or aren't confident using an online service."
News of Ms Parker's comments come as Ofgem has announced the launch of a new pilot campaign called Energy Best deal to promote awareness of the practice among pensioners and the unemployed.
