South-west and south Wales to see off housing downturn
Sound fundamentals in the property markets in the south-west of England and southern Wales will help them avoid the worst of the slowdown in the housing sector, it has been predicted.
The forecast was issued by Knight Frank in its A Different Region: Western report which points to a confluence of factors in evidence in the areas which will help prices perform above the national average.
These were identified as people relocating for a change of lifestyle, homeowners looking to downsize.
Meanwhile, the burgeoning student population will continue to keep the areas' buy to let sector healthy - with this sector also boosted by prudent council programmes, the report adds.
Liam Bailey, head of residential research, Knight Frank, said: "The region is also benefiting from an enlightened series of development programmes that has seen a focus placed on the regeneration of city and town centres and the reuse of abandoned public sector land."
