Parents urged to check home insurance in time for half-term
Parents have been warned to make sure their house insurance is up-to-date as half-term looms.
According to research from Abbey, almost three quarters of UK families have had at least one household item or item of furniture damaged by their children in the last ten years with each occasion resulting in a repair bill of £140.61.
And with kids home for half-term en masse the likelihood of an accident is multiplied, meaning it is vital that you ensure you are covered for such an eventuality, according Lloyd Wilson, head of Abbey Home Insurance.
Mr Wilson said: "School holidays are prime time for breakages so parents be warned.
"Although it can be expected that children will clumsily damage household items, the cost of replacing damaged goods can come as a nasty shock. £140 or more to repair or replace broken items is no small amount to find, so it’s worth making sure your insurance policy covers every item in your home for accidental damage."
The study also found that 11-15-year-olds were most accident-prone, with 90 per cent of parents with kids in this age group reporting that an item had been broken or damaged in their home.
