Most car vandalism happens on residential streets
British drivers may be surprised to learn that their car is most at risk from damage on residential streets.
According to figures from AA Personal Loans, nearly three quarters of drivers have suffered damage to their car at some stage.
Of these, some 43 per cent said that the vandalism had occurred while the car was parked in the street outside their house.
This compares just ten per cent who had to claim on their car insurance policies after damage was inflicted on their vehicle while it was in a multi-storey car park - a place where cars are generally held to be most vulnerable.
Mark Huggins, head of AA Personal Loans, said that the chances of vandalism can be minimised by thinking carefully about where you park and following simple steps to avoid damage.
"For example, if you are out and about, choose well-lit car parks preferably with good security such as CCTV even if it means a bit of a walk or a higher parking fee.
"And although it's not always possible to park off road at home, try to park in a well-lit spot and take simple precautions like folding in the side mirrors to reduce the risk of them being knocked off."
