Drivers flout safety rules on school run
Stressed motorists are taking huge safety risks on the school run, a survey from a car insurance provider has revealed.
In a poll conducted by Sainsbury's Car Insurance, 15 per cent of those surveyed admitted to driving without the appropriate child safety seating.
This is especially worrying given the fact that eight per cent of the sample said they had been involved in an accident while ferrying their children to school at some stage in the last five years.
Joanne Mallon, Sainsbury's Car Insurance manager, said: "The school run can be very stressful for drivers. Busy roads, children being noisy in the back seat, and the worry of being late for school or work can all lead to stress that can affect people's driving.
"What is most concerning about our findings is that a significant number of people are currently not ensuring their children are properly secured in the car."
The survey also revealed that fear of lateness was the number one cause of risky driving on the school run, with 13 per cent citing time pressures as a factor.
