Consumers can no longer rely on cards
The impact of the credit crunch has made the need to save money from month to month even greater than ever, it has been claimed.
As a result of the ongoing lack of liquidity in the financial markets, consumers are finding it increasingly difficult to secure credit cards and personal loans from lenders.
According to David Kuo, head of personal finance at Fool.co.uk, this means that many consumers will find that where once they could rely on their credit card to plug any gaps in their finances in the short-term this will no longer be the case.
He said: "Aside from what is going on in the mortgage market, people are finding it increasingly difficult to get hold of credit cards and it means that you don't have any kind of flexible loan available to plan from one month to the next.
"This is becoming increasingly more difficult for financially challenged customers."
