Check insurance before May Day mini-breaks
Motorists planning trips in their cars for the May Bank Holiday have been urged to ensure they have comprehensive car insurance before setting off.
According to moneysupermarket.com, the number of Britons taking to the roads for mini-breaks this year is expected to exceed the figure of 200 million recorded last year.
This is because the credit crunch and the pound's low standing against the euro will prompt more people to holiday in the UK rather than overseas.
But with cars more likely to overheat while stuck in the potentially huge traffic jams, it is essential that motorists check their insurance cover to avert a costly road incident, the site warns.
Richard Mason, director of insurance at moneysupermarket.com "The last thing holidaymakers want is to interrupt a well-deserved break by stumping up an extortionate breakdown call-out fee or to replace personal possessions.
"With competitive deals available for UK travel and motor breakdown cover it's better to take precautions than have to pay out more after the event."
