Brits urged to be vigilant over fraud
Consumers must be more vigilant in the fight against credit card fraud and identity theft, it has been claimed.
A survey conducted by CPP found that 74 per cent of consumers regard dealing with the fall out from such fraudulent activity as the sole responsibility of their provider.
However, the study also showed that Brits are neglecting to check for evidence of the crime and are making the job of the fraudsters easier.
CPP found that 20 per cent of respondents do not thoroughly check their bank statements, meaning that fraud frequently goes undiscovered for longer.
A statement from the CPP said: "Banks and credit card companies have put extra security measures in place such as chip and pin and Verified or MasterCard SecureCode, but these will not be effective if consumers prove to be the 'weakest link'."
Despite the widespread lax approach to checking statements, around seven out of ten of respondents said that they would expect to be fully compensated by their bank if they fell victim to fraud.
