Brits' bank account details change hands for £5
The bank account details of Britons are being bought and sold online for as little as £5, it has been claimed.
Security software specialists Symantec claims that the details are being sold in cyber-crime supermarkets, which frequently offer them to buyers on a buy one get one free basis.
The criminals also sell credit card details, which are available for as little as 20p.
It is thought that British-registered card details are especially sought after since these can be used all over Europe - a freedom which is not afforded by US credit card providers.
Symantec's report also highlighted a change in the habits of cybercriminals, which indicates they are becoming increasingly sophisticated.
The report said: "In the past, users had to visit intentionally malicious sites or click on malicious email attachments to become a victim of a security threat.
"Today, hackers are compromising legitimate websites and using them as a distribution medium to attack home and enterprise computers."
