Allianz urges householders to consider legal expenses cover
Homeowners considering court action against noisy neighbours have been urged to consider adding legal expenses cover to their home insurance plan.
According to a study of 3,000 homeowners conducted by Allianz Insurance, one-third have had a disagreement with neighbours, with 16 per cent saying that noisy people or loud music was the root of the problem.
Simon Coughlin, spokesman for Allianz Insurance said that the number of disputes increases during the spring and summer as more people take to their gardens, and noted that last year the firm's "customer helplines received hundreds of calls from policyholders asking for help to resolve a dispute".
Mr Coughlin said that it was prudent for those concerned about noise to take out legal expenses cover before becoming embroiled in what could otherwise be a costly dispute.
He added: "We would encourage householders to consider other residents and try to resolve any dispute amicably before taking legal action.
"For peace of mind, it is worth adding legal expenses cover to your home contents insurance. This includes access to advice on a wide range of personal legal issues."
